Dreaming big at the Sleep Center

Did you know that the National Institutes of Health estimate as many as 70 million Americans suffer from a sleep disorder?

Sleep disorders include insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and restless leg syndrome. If you experience poor sleep quality or your family physician suspects one of the above disorders, it may be time to visit a sleep center.

Southwell offers two sleep centers and a multitude of other services that are equipped to assist patients who need help getting a good night’s rest. The Tift Regional Medical Center (TRMC) Sleep Center is centrally located near TRMC, and the Southwell Medical Sleep Center is located in Adel within the hospital.

The Tifton location features a total of six full-service beds, and two full-service beds at the Adel location. If your doctor writes you orders for a sleep study, you may be able to have it at home before coming to one of our locations.

“Sleep studies can be done in the home, which may be more comfortable for the patient. However, various insurances have different stipulations to determine if you complete your study at home or at one of our labs,” says Brett Walker, manager for the Sleep Center.

In addition to both sleep centers, Southwell offers a CPAP education clinic located at Southwell Medical Clinic. Patients who may be experiencing issues using their CPAP are encouraged to utilize this service. A doctor’s order is required to participate in the CPAP education clinic.

The Sleep Center at TRMC and Southwell Medical are pleased to welcome Swathi Nutakki, MD to their medical staff, who joins medical director Jan Li. “Dr. Nutakki is fellowship-trained in sleep medicine and offers expertise in sleep and sleep-related issues involving breathing and behavioral aspects of sleep disorders,” says Walker.

Dr. Nutakki is available to see patients in her office located at Southwell Medical Clinic (formerly named Affinity Clinic), located right off I-75 at exit 64.
