Southwell participated in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Breakfast on Jan. 20 at the Tift County Recreation Department. This annual event, which celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. King, is hosted by PLIGHT, Inc.

PLIGHT (Proud Loving Individuals Giving a Hand to Teens), Inc. was organized in 1988 by various community members to combat the rising teenage pregnancy rate, widespread substance abuse among youth, and the lack of employment opportunities for black males. Southwell is a proud supporter of this worthwhile organization.
