From ensuring proper patient identification to promoting open communication, our ultimate goal is to create the best outcomes while eliminating errors. Staff members have been instructed to verify patient identification by using (2) patient identifiers prior to providing any care, treatment, or service. This is to ensure the right care is provided to the right patient, every time.
Southwell promotes clear communication through the use of patient communication boards located in each patient room, daily huddles, hourly rounding, and leader rounding. Accurate, clear communication promotes quality, safe care.
Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) and other medication safety technologies such as “smart” infusion pumps are used to ensure safe medication practices. Real-time alerts provide physicians, nurses, and staff with safety information.
Barcode scanning of medications to promote safe medication administration by eliminating the potential for human error.
Our team is committed to providing safe care before, during, and after surgery. Through the use of a safe surgery checklist, we verify that the correct procedure is being performed on the correct patient.
Infection Prevention
Quality, safe care includes reducing the risk of infections. Southwell has an Infection Prevention team that is committed to implementing standard precautions and reducing the risk of healthcare-associated infections.
