Southwell welcomes three new providers to TRMC

Southwell announced that three new providers have joined the medical staff of Tift Regional Medical Center (TRMC).  This includes a bariatric surgeon, a sleep medicine nurse practitioner, and an optometrist.

Specializing in bariatric weight-loss surgery, Paul Cartwright, MD is now seeing patients at South Georgia Surgical and performing procedures at TRMC.

“Dr. Cartwright is a seasoned bariatric specialist who has performed hundreds of weight-loss surgeries,” said Monica Morris, Southwell Director of Physician Recruitment. “He most recently practiced with Piedmont Surgical Specialists and Bariatrics in Columbus.”

Morris said Dr. Cartwright is certified by the American Board of Surgery with Focused Practice Designation in Bariatric Surgery. He is also certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine.

“If you are having trouble losing weight through traditional diet and exercise, bariatric surgery may be a safe option for you to successfully regain your health,” said Morris.  “Medicare and most forms of insurance cover bariatric surgery for qualified patients.”

Dr. Cartwright earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine and completed residency and fellowship training at Augusta University.  South Georgia Surgical is located in Tifton at 1007 Greenfield Drive.  Call 229-382-9733 to schedule an evaluation or for more information.

Kimberley Rodgers, NP is a nurse practitioner who has joined the Tift Regional Sleep Medicine Clinic, located in Tifton at 1493 Kennedy Road, Suite C.  With years of clinical experience as a registered nurse and paramedic, Rodgers recently earned her nurse practitioner degree from South University.

“People who struggle with getting a good night’s sleep can find the help they need with Kimberley,” said Morris. “Kimberley listens to the concerns of patients and helps to develop a plan to meet their individual needs. She is involved in every stage of a sleep evaluation, from the initial examination to comprehensive testing and from therapy to follow-up care.”

Talk your physician about a referral to Rodgers or call 229-353-7425 for more information.

A certified optometrist, Trevor Shealy, OD is working alongside ophthalmologist Bret Wagenhorst, MD at Tift Regional Ophthalmology.  A South Georgia native, Dr. Shealy earned his doctor of optometry degree and completed internship training at the Southern College of Optometry.  He followed with externship training at eye care clinics in Atlanta and Marietta. He most recently practiced with Fitzgerald Family Eye Care in Douglas.

“Dr. Shealy offers primary eye care, including pediatrics and emergency care,” said Morris. “He is available for eye exams, vision checks, glasses, contact lenses, and ocular disease management. He can diagnose and treat the most common issues that affect the eyes. If a patient needs a surgical procedure, he’ll refer to ophthalmologist Dr. Bret Wagenhorst or other appropriate surgeon.”

Tift Regional Ophthalmology is located in Tifton at 1803 Old Ocilla Road.  To make an appointment, call 229-386-2181.
