Expert Maternal Fetal Medicine, now at Tift Regional Medical Center
If your pregnancy requires specialized attention, you don’t have to travel far for expert medical care. TRMC is one of the only facilities in South Georgia to offer virtual Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) support services, providing high-risk pregnancy care to our communities. As a Level II Maternal Care Verified Facility, TRMC delivers the advanced support you need and the peace of mind you deserve.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) is specialized obstetric care for high-risk pregnancies. Our MFM experts provide virtual monitoring, care, and consults throughout your pregnancy journey. These specialists focus on mitigating the complications of pre-existing conditions such as diabetes, multiple births, and genetic concerns that may affect your pregnancy.
With TRMC’s MFM services, you stay with your trusted OB and gain the expertise of a specialist. Your OB and MFM work as a team, ensuring you receive comprehensive care with added support and advanced monitoring for greater peace of mind. Whether you’re managing a chronic condition, expecting a multiple birth, or facing unexpected complications, our goal is to deliver the healthiest outcome for you and your baby.
MFM Enhances Your Pregnancy Care Team
Keep your OB, gain specialized support
Do You Need MFM?
Specialized care for pregnancies requiring extra medical attention
Your OB may recommend maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) care if your pregnancy would benefit from specialized monitoring and expertise. Common reasons for MFM referral include:
- Managing health conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, or obesity
- Previous pregnancy complications or miscarriages
- Ultrasound findings requiring further evaluation
- Being under 18 or over 35 years old
- Multiple pregnancies (twins, triplets)
- Family history of genetic conditions
Not sure if you need MFM care? Your OB will guide you. If specialized support would benefit your pregnancy, your doctor will help coordinate everything.

What to Expect at Your MFM Visit
Real-time expertise and answers
Your MFM appointment includes a comprehensive, detailed ultrasound using advanced technology – significantly more thorough than typical OB scans. No, you’ll continue seeing your OB just as you normally would. Your MFM specialist works alongside your OB to provide added care and monitoring. This team-based approach gives you the ongoing support of your regular provider and the expertise of a high-risk pregnancy specialist.
What qualifies as a high-risk pregnancy?
A high-risk pregnancy poses potential complications for the mother, baby, or both, due to factors like maternal health conditions, advanced age, multiple pregnancies, or complications like preeclampsia.
